Victoza

Diabetes Drug prescribed to control blood sugar in patients with Type 2 diabetes.

History – In 2010 Novo Nordisk’s Victoza received FDA approval. The FDA published a warning in 2011 stating doctors were not fully aware of the thyroid risks when patients used Victoza. The warning also included information that clinical trials concluded an increased risk of pancreatitis in patients who used Victoza. In March 2015 the FDA suggested the pharmaceutical company include a black box warning about the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Studies have linked Victoza to with thyroid and pancreatic cancer in patients. As a result, there are several lawsuits in multi-district litigation in the Southern District of California.
